What is durable carbon dioxide removal?
Durable Carbon Dioxide Removal (Durable CDR) involves methods that keep captured CO2 stored safely for a long time, so it doesn’t go back into the air. This includes techniques like storing CO2 underground or turning it into stable materials. The goal is to make sure the CO2 stays out of the atmosphere permanently.
Why is carbon removal needed in addition to reducing emissions?
While reducing emissions is essential, it's not always enough to address the existing levels of CO2 in the atmosphere. Carbon removal helps to actively reduce atmospheric CO2 and counterbalance historical emissions.
How can individuals or organizations support carbon removal efforts?
Individuals and organizations can support CDR efforts by investing in or supporting CDR technologies, advocating for supportive policies, and participating in or organizing initiatives that promote carbon removal and climate action.
